One Twenty West’s signature sound can best be described as an exquisite blend of today’s power pop with a liberal dose of 80’s influence. Their original music has been compared to that of The Maine, Hellogoodbye, and YouMeAtSix. Since forming in early 2009, they have been entertaining crowds of all ages, having performed at numerous live events including local festivals, local music venues, open mics, private parties, school talent shows, and community fundraising events. Their multi-generational appeal is directly linked to their professionalism, get-stuck-in-your-head original tunes as well as their careful selection of cover tunes, and their clean-cut image. Always well received, they are garnering a strong following and looking for new areas to spread their music.
The band is currently comprised of brothers Grey and Drake Taxon, Colleen Fazio, Jeric Tumang, and Jeff Wegrzyn. The quintet became acquainted with each other during Middle and High School extra-curricular musical ensembles. The five share an unbreakable bond, having built much of their relationship over music. Collectively, their musical influences span the spectrum, from Soul to Ska; from Jazz and Jive, to Classic Rock, to Classical; from Reggae to R&B, and Pop to Punk; each member contributes a distinct flavor and texture to the dynamic of their songwriting style.
In their brief history, One Twenty West has accumulated a number of accolades. Their accomplishments include being named “Tomorrow’s Top Talent” by the Promenade Bolingbrook in 2009, winning the RockOut for DayOne Battle of the Bands Benefit in Batavia (August 2010), being the victors of the Oswego East Battle of the Bands (March 2011), and placing first out of numerous other Chicago-area bands in the 103.5 KISS FM/Raging Waves Bands' Battle this past July. In early 2010, they hit the studio and recorded their debut EP, entitled Worth the Wait, at Downbeat Studios in Chicago with Michael Govaere (formerly of Every Avenue) in the engineer's chair. They are currently in the process of writing and recording their sophomore effort.
Although relatively young in their years, One Twenty West has proven themselves mature in their approach and sincere passion towards music. Their dedication to writing and performing is undeniable. They are beginning to break from the confines of their cozy suburban town, and expand the reaches of their musical strains. The tracks above are true testaments to their skill in both composing and performing. They love connecting with fans, both in person at shows, and over the magic of the interweb. So, whether you have stumbled across One Twenty West for the very first time, or have been along for the ride since their inception, take a moment to enjoy the melodious refrains of their works.
